Fax Server

Fax Server

  1. Configuration
    1. The Pentagon server architecture states that for the entire network – only one server should be running as the Main Server. The Main Server is responsible for various tasks as listed below:
      1. Calculations
      2. Report running
      3. Forms production
      4. ETS Management
      5. Faxes Management
      6. Etc.
    2. Aside from the Main Server, there can be other servers running on other machines. Those servers are called Transmitters, and it is their responsibility is to send the faxes that the Main Server receives and manages. Because of the nature of these servers, they should be running on computers with modems/fax devices. These servers must run Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server using an external fax card.

NOTE: Windows 2003 Server support with multiple fax cards in one server.

NOTE: Windows XP supports only one fax card. If you run multi transmitters, you will need one computer for each transmitter.

        [EXAMPLE]

      3. International Access Code: Prefix required for dialing to an overseas location (011).
      4. Area Code: Required for sending faxes to another area in the country.
      5. Country Code: Defines the country code (user country) of the transmitter location. If this option is used, then all fax numbers in the system should include country code as well.
      6. Waiting interval between attempts (Seconds): wait time interval between sending attempts.
      7. Number of dialing attempts: the number of times the server should retry sending the fax upon a failure.
      8. Send Faxes that have the same phone number together: combining all the faxes with matching phone number to one connection, the fax server will consolidates only the faxes that are pending.
      9. Send Faxes to all countries, regardless of the time: Sending faxes regardless of the responsibility settings of the transmitter, (This flag ignores the Transmitter Location setup and the / Send times).

        6. Using the Add button creates a new responsibility for the transmitter, a new country to which faxes will be sent only in the time limit defined here.
        7. In order to send faxes to the entire country instead of a specific area code, leave the area code field blank. This will automatically default to “All Areas”.
        8. Clicking the [Responsibilities/Send times] button will open up the following window:
  8. Important Notes
    1. Do this step only if you set the transmitter as Windows XP or Server2003:

    3. Right Click on any image tiff file, select With’, then Program’.
    4. Make sure the use the selected program… is marked.
    5. In order for the Fax Transmitters to work properly, the windows fax service on the computer needs to be able to start. Try to start is as follows:

      2. Administrative Tools
      3. Services

  9. Multi fax Transmitters

    In a situation where there are two fax servers on two different computers;
    1. Create separate settings for each fax
    2. Under \P2000SQL create two sub directories; \P2000DQL\FAX1\ and \P2000SQL\FAX2\
    3. Copy the files to each of the directories and create separate icons from each XP computer for both the server.exe and FaxManSDK.
      1. Extract the zip dll file
      2. Copy the FaxManSDK.exe
      3. Copy the Server.exe
      4. Copy the two xml files

NOTE: When you set the server as main from pentagon administration it will update the xml file within \P2000SQL and not the file in the sub directory; you will need to copy the XML file to both of the sub directories after configuring.
      5. Copy the PENTAGON2000SQL.INI
  10. Working with McAfee Enterprise 8.0
    1. Working with FaxMan on a station with MacAfee enterprise 8.0i running in the background, may lead to a crash due to collision between the FaxMan & McAfee.
    2. There is a chance that running another firm Antivirus may lead to the same crash.
